Women Hear Best When Gossiping or Eavesdropping

According to new research females only really hear properly when they are gossiping or eavesdropping on other people's conversations.

The poll of 2,000 people produced the following results:

  • 2/3 women admitted they listened most acutely when trying to hear an argument or tune into gossip.
  • Only ½ of men said they only hear properly when gossiping, while only 4 in 10 admitted to listening closely to other people's conversations.
  • 1 in 5 men said they they always listened carefully to every word.   Less than 1 in 5 women said the same.
  • Women were most likely to switch off when listening to their work colleagues, with the average woman catching what they say just 64% of the time.
  • Women admitted they only really hear 70% of the conversations they have with their partner.
  • When talking to their best friend, women give their full attention to more than 3/4 of what is spoken.
