Halloween Party Tips

Halloween isn't just for the kids.  Decorate the house, dress up and have some spooky-licious fun with our Halloween party tips.....

Set The Scene

Creating a spooky scene for your Halloween party doesn't have to be a nightmare. Here are six spooky suggestions:

Have fun with spooky lighting

Give the room an eerie glow by using green light bulbs rather than standard incandescent light bulbs. You can find coloured light bulbs at most department stores.

Cut bats, ghosts, spiders and witches faces out of black cardboard and tape to the inside of lampshades. Replace the bulb with an orange one.

Decorate the room with spooky stuff e.g. synthetic spider's webs with plastic spiders and tombstones made out of cardboard. Cut spiders and bats from black cardboard and hang them low throughout the room, preferably where people will bump into them in the dark!

Buy a tape of spooky sounds or have some fun making your own. Tape the sounds of sinister laughter, a dog howling and a door creaking.

Remember to dress the part. Concoct a scary costume and practise walking like a zombie. If you haven't had a decent night's sleep since you became a parent that should be pretty easy!

Halloween Party Games

You know you want to, so join in with the kids and play some of these fun Halloween party games!

Balloon Bursts

Decorate the room with orange balloons. Before you blow them up place a piece of paper in some or all with a specific instruction on it.  Each person has to burst a balloon and do whatever is on the piece of paper. Some suggestions are: kiss the nearest goblin, jump like a kangaroo, eat something black, hop on one leg for 30 seconds, etc

The Mad Mummy Game

For this you'll need a whole lotta toilet paper.

Everyone pairs off with a partner or into teams depending on numbers. One person in the team wraps the other person in their team with toilet paper for a certain amount of time... 2 or 3 minutes is probably enough. The team with the most thoroughly wrapped mummy is the winner.

Halloween Pinata

Get rid of some fustration by bashing a pinata, and you gets sweets if you hit it hard enought - perfect.

Dr Gross Guessing Game

Decorate shoe boxes and cut a hole large enough for a hand to get through in the top. Mark the boxes with "what gory stuff is inside" and place certain objects inside that will feel revolting - some suggestions are:

Eyeballs - Peeled grapes.
Guts - Oiled spaghetti. (vegetable oil)
Skin - Oiled soft flour tortilla. (vegetable oil)
Teeth - Unpopped popcorn.

Dooking (bobbing, dunking!) for Apples

Fill a basin with water and apples, put lots of towels around it and try to catch the apples using your mouth, hands behind your back!.

Donuts on string (with or witout treacle)

Tie donuts to a string and hang from a height, try to eat without using your hands.
