Thirty Something Women Rule the Web
THIRTY-SOMETHING WOMEN RULE THE WEB
Where once social-networking sites were the playground of acne-d teens and pontificating geeks, they’re now being overrun by thirty and forty-something women.
New research by Neilsen (the market research firm) suggests women over 35 now completely dominate sites such as Facebook and Twitter and continue to be amongst the fastest-growing groups using these sites – up 10% in the last year.
While women make full use of the range of facilities on offer – talking to others, organising social engagements, running clubs and sharing various types of media - men are far less active.
Rapleaf – an internet consumer research company – found that globally married women between 35-50 were the fastest-growing proportion of social-network users.
Google Ad Planner suggests almost two-thirds of Myspace users are women, the majority of female users being mothers.
Experts suggest that women are far more likely to take to social networking because it allows them to quickly build communities, reinforce and maintain friendships.
