How to 'Facebook'!

How to 'Facebook'!

At it's most basic, Facebook is a social networking site that connects people all around the world.  It's the perfect vehicle for busy people to keep up with friends and snoop in on people from their past and present.  It's fun, it's simple and it's highly addictive!

Facebook's great for keeping up with current friends, but you can also upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, join in all manner of interactive surveys and quizzes, find old friends and make new friends.

Who can join Facebook?

All that's needed to join is a valid email address.

How do you Join Facebook?

It's seductively easy.....

Type in www.facebook.com into your web browser

Fill in the Signup for Facebook form

Type in the names of all your old friends and go for it....

How Does Facebook Work?

Facebook works by inviting people to be your 'friend'.  You can then contact them (with a poke!) and see who they have as friends. You can't view the profiles of people who haven't agreed to accept you as friends and they can't see yours.

How do I find friends?

Just type in the name of someone you know and if they're already members of  Facebook, a limited version of  their profile will appear,  You can then invite them to confirm you as a friend,  communicate with them and view their full details..

How Do you 'Grow' your Friends?

If you find someone you already know in Facebook you can view their profile and see a list of their friends.  You'll often find you have friends in common, so you may find people you know on your friends' profiles. Current friends can also 'suggest' other people that you might be interested in being friends with.

How do you Make your Own Profile in Facebook?

At the top of your page there's a tab to edit your profile.   Here you can add a fairly substantial number of pictures, details about your life and even videos if you want to.

What Other Functions Are There?

Facebook has lots of additional functionality.  You can talk privately to friends using the private messaging pop ups at the bottom of the page.  When you log on, the names of friends who are logged on at the same time appear along the bottom of the page and you can chat simulataneously to several friends at once.

You can also have a more public conversation by writing on one another's 'walls'.  Be careful though - these comments are available for all to view!  You can also 'tag' photos and videos so they'll appear on the walls of your friends profiles and also friends of friends.

Facebook also has lots of interactive quizzes, surveys and campaigns - a great way of getting involved and showing where your common interests lie.

Facebook is now configured to be compatible with other websites so you can import your entire Facebook profile onto other social networking sites.  Ideal if you can't be bothered updating a multitude of profiles!  Facebook  is also being used more and more by innovative businesses to promote their services.
