'Swofties' Never Happier

Single women over 50 (Swofties) are doing it all. Spinsters, widows or divorcees, they’re on their own, living it large and loving it!

The estimated 600,000 over-50’s females in Britain are happily embracing new experiences. Researchers surveyed over 1,000 women and 17% said they enjoyed dating, with 20% declaring they had a ‘great social life’.  More than 25% said it was ‘the happiest time of their adult lives’.

They weren’t thrown by new technology with 20% signing up to social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.  Almost 50% said they’d taken up a new skill after reaching 50 e.g.  computer courses, cookery, foreign languages and salsa dancing.  Keeping fit and active was also popular with at least 25% being regulars at gyms and keep fit classes.  Many were enjoying foreign travel with 18% describing that as the most exciting aspect of their lives.
