Sex Life Not all It Could Be? Help is at hand.....

sex counselling in Edinburgh, psycho-sexual counselling Medic Alternative

Given the increasing emphasis on sexuality in our society, the  continuous sexual activity of midlife/older couples and the growing awareness of very common sexual disorders, many more women are wondering where to get help in order to achieve or prolong a happy and healthy sex life.

Who to Turn To?

Many traditional GP’s hesitate to tackle sexuality issues.  Some feel they lack the training and skills, others may feel personal discomfort with the subject or fear offending the patient.  Some believe they have few treatments to offer and surprisingly many believe that sexual interest and activity fall away with age and cease to be an issue.

Many switched on women of all ages who would gladly seek therapy for sexual issues in the same way they would seek therapy for other concerns, are nonetheless put off by the traditional image of a ‘sex therapist’

However, this slightly edgy, often smutty image simply does not reflect the reality of modern psycho-sexual counselling.

Edinburgh-based Dr. Lyndsey Myskow has worked as a psychosexual therapist for 25 years and says:

'Sexual problems are common, but people suffering from such a problem often feel isolated. Sex is not something we discuss freely in this society, particularly not when it's causing us difficulty.  So it’s easy to imagine that everyone else is having a fantastic sex life, while we're the only ones struggling.

I deal with all sorts of sexual and gender difficulties and to me sex is just an ordinary part of the human experience. It’s not shameful or distasteful and whatever your problem, I've probably seen it before in the 25 years I’ve been practising as a sex therapist.

In my view the sooner a sexual problem is dealt with, the better, as early on they are much easier to sort out. If left untreated they can cause low self-esteem, depression and can wreck relationships. However it's never too late to seek help
'.

Who Can be Treated?

Dr. Myskow treats people who have loss of desire or relationship problems, men with erectile difficulties or premature ejaculation, women with pain or problems in having intercourse, and people with abuse issues or who have suffered a sexual or childbirth trauma.

Where Can I Get Sexual Counselling?

Dr. Myskow treats patients in the tranquil surroundings of the Medic Alternative clinic in beautiful Dean Village in the heart of Edinburgh.
