Passion on a Plate
Since Aphrodite rose from the sea on an oyster then gave birth to Eros certain foods have been believed to stimulate lust. Aphrodisiacs fall broadly into three camps - those containing vitamins and natural stimulants, those that are sensuous in the mouth and those with an erotic appearance.
So get in the mood, get down to Sainsbury’s and load up on Epicurean ecstasy!
Aphrodisiacs - The Food of Love

Figs
The lush pinkness of the opened fig is sooo suggestive of female sexual organs! Get your lover to open one and eat it slowly while you watch! The ancient Greeks (who knew a thing or two about aphrodisiacs) revered the fig as a symbol of fertility and would ritually copulate to welcome each year’s new fig crop.
Asparagus
The ultimate phallic shaped food! Not just a suggestive shape – asparagus contains vitamin E to stimulate sex hormones. Indulge for a few days prior to passion for a really powerful boost!
Bananas
Shape again! Associated with erotic energy in the Tantric tradition, bananas are rich in potassium and B vitamins – vital for sex hormone production.
Almonds
A long term symbol of fertility, it’s believed the aroma stimulates female passion – hence its use in luxury lotions and soaps.
Avocado
The Aztecs called the avocado tree the ‘testicle’ tree. Avocado contains B vitamins, again said to increase sex hormone production. Convinced of the avocado’s miraculous stimulating powers, Catholic priests once forbade it to their parishioners!
Chilli Peppers
Ah the legendary power of the chilli! Chillis contain ‘capsaicin’ which stimulates nerve endings, raises the pulse, makes our endorphins soar and induces a temporary high. Yee-hah!
Chocolate
Well duh! The ultimate queen of aphrodisiacs, the divine cocoa bean contains phenylethylamine which creates a sense of well being and excitement which mimics the natural high endorphins give us. Its power to inflame passion has led to a chocolate ban being imposed in many monasteries! Casanova was reputed to indulge himself before long sessions in the boudoir. Coffee
Used in moderation, coffee is a great stimulant for mind and body. Ideal if you need to stay up all night!
Oysters

Eaten raw, the consumption of oysters to inflame passion has been around since – guess when – the Ancient Greeks! A great source of zinc, an essential mineral for testosterone production. (not just one for the male - this hormone also increases female libido!)
Ginger
Epicurean Viagra! A powerful stimulant for the circulatory system, ginger is believed to increase both sexual potency and desire. You need to consume the actual root though – Ginger Nuts won’t do it!
Strawberries and Raspberries
Red – the colour of love – and high in vitamin C, raspberries and strawberries have been described in erotic literature as ‘fruit nipples’. Pass them from your mouth to your lover’s. Gently!
It Ain’t What You Do It’s the Way that You Do it…..
Sometimes it’s not what you eat it’s the way that you eat it! Those of a certain age will remember the infamous Cadbury’s ‘phallic’ ads. Gorgeous, reclining, semi-orgasmic females wrapping their tongues round a stalk of crumbling chocolate then licking stray wisps away….. Oh. My. God.
