Embarassing 'Dad' Dance Is Down to Evolution

Embarrassing dad dance routine is 'down to evolution'

New research reveals that the embarrassing ‘dad’ dance may well be explained by evolution.

At every wedding reception or family disco we’ve all witnessed the most cringe-worthy dance moves by middle aged men.

Psychologist Dr Peter Lovatt of the University of Hertfordshire has concluded that men between 35 and 60 practise embarrassing dance moves to repel younger women.

'There is an evolutionary reason for this - you don't want 45-year-old men going off with 18-year-old women,' he said.

The study shows a connection between dancing, hormones and sexual selection.  It suggests that says women can gauge the testosterone levels of dancers by the style and energy of their moves.

Older men, apparently, are more confident so they try out more complex routines.  However as they get older they have more limited co-ordination so they end up looking awkward.

Dr Lovatt suggests this may be nature’s way of warning women of child-bearing age that they might be better off looking elsewhere.
