Why British Men Make Great Husbands
British men make best husbands, British men help more with housework

There are rumours abound that Italians make the best lovers and Frenchmen the best romantics, but which nationality would you have thought made the best husbands?
We did a straw poll in the IW office and – no surprise - Scandinavians came up tops.
A new study by Oxford Uni’s Centre for Time Use Research does indeed confirm Scandinavian males’ supremacy, but, perhaps more surprisingly, British men apparently make highly attractive spouses because - wait for it – they’re amongst the best in the world at helping with the housework! (Women of Britain - wipe that sceptical look from your faces....)
The Centre’s researchers constructed an 'equality index' of 12 developed countries, examining the various attitudes towards gender, housework and childcare responsibilities. A sample of 13,500 men and women, aged between 20 and 45, was taken from the 12 countries and used in the study.
While Norway and Sweden respectively topped the index, Great Britain was in third place, followed by the US. Japan, Germany, and Austria.
Australian men – world renowned for their love of sport and beer, were right at the bottom, the least egalitarian and least likely to wield a feather duster or look after the kids.
The study also revealed that while men with a 'more egalitarian' outlook were viewed as better marriage material by women, most men said they preferred women with fewer expectations of equality in the home. Can’t say we find that quite so surprising!
