Are Sex Aids 'Threatening'?
ARE SEX AIDS ‘THREATENING’?

Philips, those friendly Dutch makers of lightbulbs, televisions and food mixers have launched the Dual Intimate Massager - a discreet, non-penetrative mutual vibrator aimed at established middle class couples.
Why? Because their in-depth market research revealed that many couples avoid buying traditional sex toys because they find them ‘threatening’.
Feeling Left Out?

Says Sheila Struyck of Philips ‘We found a lot of couples telling us they wanted a marital aid but what they were seeing in the market didn’t appeal’
In particular Philips discovered men were often downright intimidated by the type of products generally sold in sex shops and lingerie retailers (presumably over-sized phallic products like the Rampant Rabbit) and women were put off by the often smutty presentation of existing devices.
Says Sheila ‘We were looking for products that wouldn’t replace one or the other partner. With more targeted products one partner feels left out’.
Upfront and Acceptable
Philips also discovered both women and men were embarrassed to even own a product which looked obviously phallic. They came to the conclusion that what modern couples really wanted was something you didn’t have to buy under-the-counter, that was accepted as ‘mainstream’ and respectable – something you could buy in a normal shop and wasn’t obviously a sex-aid.
