Become Greener and Save Money - in Business or at Home

GOING GREEN by Angus Crabbie

Where to Start?

How can we become more environmentally friendly?  Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start!   The thing to remember is that it’s not so much what we do that makes a difference as the fact that we make the effort to do something.

Adjust Your Energy Consumption

Whether it’s within your business or in the home first look at what you’re doing already.  A large proportion of your carbon footprint is made up of the energy you use, so by making a few simple, low cost adjustments you can not only reduce your carbon footprint but also put some significant savings in your pocket.

Here are a simple steps to get you started…

•    Turn off lights
•    Turn down heating
•    Recycle

Stand By For Change....

Making changes like not leaving TVs on standby might seem fairly easy but you do need to work at it – because these things become habits!!   And habits have been compared to a comfortable bed…easy to get into but hard to get out of…

Put Something Back.....

Why not plant a tree as an unusual gift for a friend or relative?  Perhaps for a birthday or other special occasion or as a memorial.  (Angus’ has a special tree planting offer for Informed Women  - see our Loyalty Card page)

Just Do Your Best

In a perfect world we would all be able to make the necessary changes without any problems, but this is hardly ever the case.  My own home, for example, is far from being a model of sustainability – but I am trying. If we all make a bit of effort to make a few small adjustments then the overall results can far outweigh the individual effort or contribution.

Green Facts:  Only one in five of us turn off lights in unoccupied rooms.
