RIVERSIDE RETREAT - FEATURE HOME OF THE WEEK

A stunning contemporary conversion of an old industrial building, this light-filled riverside duplex apartment combines the best of old-world charm with cutting-edge 21st century elegance.
The airy, open plan sitting, dining room and kitchen makes the most of an irregular shape and corner site. A recycled blonde parquet gym floor makes an elegant backdrop to a smart leather and steel corner sofa by B & B Italia. A simple black granite fire surround houses a plasma screen and double height, original French windows overlook a charming wrought iron balcony.
A simple white retro-style kitchen with recessed stainless steel handles extends across the rear wall and is saved from blandness by two oversized grey designer lampshades.
A mink-coloured feature wall injects much-needed warmth into the area and helps ground the iconic elliptical dining table and chairs by Danish designer Arne Jacobsen. A painted wrought iron staircase curves gracefully toward three light-filled and unusually shaped bedrooms and a stylish bathroom.
What the master bedroom lacks in size it more than makes up for in style. Situated in the eaves, the room’s unusual shape is accentuated by attractive curved oak beams. A simple suede covered bed frame conceals copious hidden storage and simple side tables with egg lamps create a warm and intimate glow.
The equally compact master bathroom is housed in a small area of the eaves. Again though limited on space, it’s big on style.
Walls, floor and bath are clad in grey Welsh slate and fittings are simple, contemporary and high on quality. Concealed lighting provides dramatic shadows and a sense of intimacy and a deep shag rug provides a retro edge and a touch of luxury underfoot.
