A Whiter Shade of Pale - Feature Home

This subtle, elegant and tranquil home is the ultimate retreat from the chaos of the city.  Decorated throughout in timeless hues of stone and alabaster it’s a residence it’s hard not to love.

The focus of the main drawing room is two sets of elegant French windows opening out to a lush courtyard garden.  The soft pastel décor is grounded by a glossy dark-stained parquet floor.  An elegant Louis-style marble fireplace is topped by an unusual jewelled, gilt-framed mirror with miniature oil paintings of rural scenes inset.  A baby grand dominates the space in front of the windows and the furnishings are a mixture of French provincial style and English country.  Soft spotlights set into the beamed ceiling create a tranquil ambience.

The master bedroom is decorated in the same soft, velvety alabaster tones and is dominated by an imposing, regal four-poster with an elaborately tented ceiling.  Rich but subtle damasks have been used for the bed,  window and interior cupboard drapes.  Delicate Louis-style parlour chairs and etchings of classical statuary create a timeless, classical feel.

The dressing room off the main bedroom is a clothes-hoarders dream.  Bespoke cabinetry in the ubiquitous shade of  alabaster is fronted by floor to ceiling mirrors which reflect the light and provide a practical space to admire the day’s choice of clothing from all angles.  A Parisian-style light fitting and draped blind in thai silk provide welcome luxurious touches.

The bespoke kitchen cabinetry was created by the same company.  It combines traditional, classical touches (such as the ornate pediments which support the granite counter ) and contemporary features such as the roll front larders.  There’s space enough for double islands and a classical archway leads through to an informal breakfast room.

Additional bespoke cabinetry is found in the master bathroom , a particularly grand and practical feature being the multi-drawered ‘spice’ chest - ideal for cosmetics and general bathroom nick-nacks.  A circular spa bath is set into a large, dramatic bay window topped with ornate swags and tails.   Another Parisian style light fighting and ornate tiling lend a very French je ne sais quoi!
