Edinburgh Home of the Month - July 2009

Edinburgh home of the month, Edinburgh home, contemporary design

North Berwick, is close to Edinburgh, just off the A1. This contemporary property’s so desirable we featured it as our July Home of the month.

Plot 5, Windygates Road, is one of six uniquely, light-filled residences with dramatic cathedral ceilings and a very high-end spec.  The location’s green and leafy – all the more important when so much of the outside space enters the home through vast sheets of glass.

The impressive open plan living area has acres of glossy hardwood floors that reflect the light from large areas of windows and glass doors.    The décor* is tastefully minimal, in shades of cream, taupe and chocolate and the neutral colour scheme is repeated throughout the property.  Doors off the dining area lead to an attractive patio.

Off the dining area is a truly impressive, sleek and glossy kitchen with copious storage space and cleverly inset utilities.    A bank of windows over the main counter area forms a reassuringly continous pattern that balances the repetition in the units themselves.  Simple blinds echo the minimal theme.   A powerful extractor over a cooking island plus an informal dining area/divider with stylish designer stools break up the banks of units and prevent the space from being too regimented and sterile.

The piece de resistance is a mezzanine sitting area with vast, interestingly shaped  double height windows overlooking the tops of trees.  A wood-clad cathedral ceiling creates a both dramatic feature and a sense of warmth and enclosure.  Sliding doors lead out to a decked balcony - perfect for that relaxed breakfast capuccino!.

This stunning home is currently for sale*.
