DOCKSIDE DES RES – FEATURE HOME

This light-drenched dockside apartment combines the best of classic and modern design and offers a tranquil retreat from the city’s commercial hub.
A broad terrace with silvered teak decking wraps around two sides of this open apartment.  Large, contemporary shaped shrubs screen out some of the dockside views and offer a degree of luxury and privacy when sunbathing on loungers.  Sliding patio doors help bring the outside in when the weather is fine and a deep awning offers welcome shade when the sun is at its highest.

The spacious lounge features double patio doors onto the terrace and reclaimed oak panelling rescued from a stately home.  The oak is continued throughout the apartment in the form of wood cornicing which gives a crisp, framing edge to otherwise plain rooms. Contemporary cream sofas are made more luxurious and practical by the addition of black and brown throws and pillows and a  fine wool rug in vibrant citrus shades warms the Carrera marble floor.   A floor standing lightbox and low designer pendant create soft mood lighting and a wall of books lends a studious intimacy to the room.

The same oak trim lends a crisp definition to the adjacent dining room.  A vast, antique oak refectory table is flanked by uber-chic red leather armchairs and a stylised, oriental black-lacquered sideboard. An eastern-inspired metallic lacquered urn echoes the oriental theme and a vibrant contemporary canvas picks up the same luscious reds and blacks.

Large, antiqued leather tiles set slightly overlapping create a unique and highly attractive flooring surface in the contemporary kitchen.  Low level skirting lights make the most of this rich feature. The russet tones are picked up in the narrow stone tiling used for the splashbacks.  A stainless steel bar counter with fifties-style bar stools lends a top-end American diner feel to this sleek, contemporary kitchen and a further range of stainless steel fronted units conceal state-of-the art appliances.
