This month’s feature home is a stunning contemporary residence at Fairmilehead.

Visitors are invited to sprawl in the womblike cinema room on  smart-yet-comfortable modular sofas.  A flotilla of comfortable scatter cushions lends a jaunty air.  A bespoke Bose cinema system plays music, DVD’s and radio not only in the cinema room but also the garden, changing area and entertainment area adjacent to the luxurious swimming pool.




The self-cleaning pool is housed in a stunning, vaulted-ceilinged room overlooking the gardens.  A corner Jacuzzi is a great place for guests to relax before or after informal meals in the dedicated summer kitchen.



The painted, hand-built kitchen units have a mix of granite and tropical hardwood worktops.  A raft of luxurious appliances have been built in, including a wine cooler, espresso machine, induction wok ring and barbeque grill.   The cream units and Jerusalem stone floor are warmed and saved from blandness by a cosy feature wall in a rich chocolate.  The hardwood bar counter with tall upholstered bar stools is a great place for guests to gather over a glass of wine while food is being prepared.


The principle bedroom suite occupies the whole of the top floor.  It’s decorated in alluring shades of soft grey- blue and taupe.  Mirrored partition walls conceal a substantial dressing room..  A south-facing balcony offers breathtaking views over the Pentland Hills.




The Eastern-inspired master en suite has a luxurious steam room and contemporary free-standing bath.  Walls and floors are clad in cool limestone tiles and stylish hardwood storage units support double free-standing sink bowls.


Contemporary landscaped gardens surround a vast patio that’s perfect for summer entertaining.  The centrepiece is a magnificent stone fire pit, perfect when the nights are cooler.
