Baronial Splendour - Edinburgh Feature Home

This breathtaking apartment is a unique drawing room conversion forming part of Southfield House, Liberton, a baronial country residence designed by John Chesser.

The thoroughly magnificent 33’ drawing room has an imposing 20’ wide floor-to-ceiling bay overlooking tree-filled grounds.  Deep sash windows grace over 50% of the adjacent elevation and elegant French windows open onto a sunny private terrace.

The tasteful-yet-arresting contemporary décor consists of monochrome shades of grey, silver, charcoal and black enlivened by bright splashes of fuschia and aubergine. A classic baby grand takes centre stage in the dramatic bay and soft dove grey sectional sofas and chairs create a cosy conversation hub in this vast, airy space. Dramatic black drapes create a sense of cosy enclosure while a glamorous, glossy hardwood floor reflects the light and adds additional warmth.

The airy kitchen/dining room picks up the same monochrome shades in a dramatic silver/grey statement wallpaper.  The same colour scheme and pattern repeat are reversed in the semi-traditional flooring.  A vast chandelier creates excitement and drama in the dining area where deeply upholstered chairs nestle in another light flooded, floor-to-ceiling bay.

The luxurious master bedroom also benefits from a restrained colour palette, though this time shades of gold, chocolate and taupe.  Original sash windows in a deep recess create the perfect home for a decadent leopard print chaise longue.   The perfect spot for lounging with the Sunday papers!   Yet more statement wallpaper features antique musical instruments in luxurious shades of taupe and gold.

An imposing mahogany sleigh bed is dressed in a silky padded bed throw and topped with some texture-full scatter cushions.   Contemporary bedside tables create an interesting, artful fusion of the period and the contemporary  and recessed lighting bathes the room in a soft glow while enhancing the richness of the colour scheme.

The main bathroom-cum-wetroom is entirely sheathed in rich, practical and tactile limestone tiles.  A deep, oriental style circular soaking tub dominates one corner and stylish curvaceous bathroom fittings with concealed fittings add a tasteful, luxurious air of the boutique hotel.    An oversized rainfall shower without the need for screening creates the sense of freedom of the wetroom.

A sunny private terrace creates a perfect spot for sunbathing, entertaining and enjoying  panoramic views of extensive, leafy grounds.
