Age of Aquarius - Feature Home
AGE OF AQUARIUS FEATURE HOME
Soft, surreal light and the reassuring sound of softly gurgling water infuse this tranquil city-centre retreat as the noise and smells of the city just fade away.
A sitting room dominated by a large aquarium can sound pretty tacky! But in this case the underwater medley is so stunning and the cabinetry so beautifully finished that it forms a unique and classy focal point totally in keeping with the rest of this beautiful apartment. The rest of the décor is deliberately kept muted so as not to compete with the main feature. Walls are painted in a soft taupe and a sofa grouping in an attractive taupe and cream nautical stripe surrounds an oversized lacquered coffee table on stamped and stained concrete legs. The polished hardwood floor softly reflects the light from the aquarium and an upholstered leather bench and quirky ebony stool provide additional guest seating.
Double doors lead through to a formal dining room which doubles as a billiards room by reversing the table top. Double low-hung designer light fittings illuminate the table and create a soft, intimate ambience. A vast pop-art painting of a New York street scene dominates the room and lends a distinctly contemporary feel and a soft kid leather sofa with a scattering of cushions creates a relaxing spot for an after-dinner sprawl.
The handmade, painted wood Georgian style kitchen is again infused with soft light, but this time from a ceiling panel into which has been cleverly fitted daylight simulation bulbs to give the very realistic effect of a skylight. An Aga has been built into the original chimney breast and a stylish hardwood topped central island makes the perfect spot for guests to perch on stools, sip wine and chat to the chef. An oversized railway clock and wrought iron accessories lend a distinctly Provencal feel to the room.
In the master en-suite there are further examples of some truly outstanding cabinetry. A deep, wall hung butler’s sink has been set into deep green oak shelving and surrounded by beautifully crafted oak panelling.
Stylised designer wall-lights either side of the mirror give the feel of a boutique hotel and heavily textured, unpolished marble mosaic lines the inside of the capacious double shower cabinet.
