Plumb it!
There are quite a few plumbing jobs you can very easily do yourself. Simple plumbing jobs include dripping taps, fixing an overflowing toilet (or reattaching a lever that's detached from the pull-hook), bleeding radiators and unblocking choked sinks. Yes - you can do it!
Dripping Taps

Dripping taps are usually caused by worn washers inside the tap body.
First switch off water supply to the tap concerned.
Remove tap top (screw under HOT/COLD sign). This allows access to main screw holding tap together.
Unscrew same to expose tap workings.
Remove damaged washer and replace with new.
Reassemble tap.
No more drip!
Toilet Flush

There are two main types of flushing mechanisms - lever (or pull) and push button (either vacuum or wire.) Both types lift the valve to release water into bowl.
A common fault is when the lever becomes detached from the pull hook.
The other common fault is overflowing caused by the ball valve requiring adjustment.
Cold Radiators need bleeding

If your radiator is cold near the top, this is usually caused by air in the system. This is common when the heating's switched back on after being off for some time.
Using a bleeding key (available from most DIY stores), with the heating switched OFF and, with a rag, slowly release the valve at the top side of your radiator until the air is released and water starts to come out of the valve weep hole. Leave for a few minutes and repeat the procedure.
Choked Sinks

Over time the u-bend under sinks can become blocked by assorted unmentionable things!
First try plunging from the top (plungers can be bought from most DIY stores). Once the blockage is cleared let hot water run for about a minute. The drain should then run free.
If it’s a particularly badly blockage it may be necessary to remove the trap under the sink and clear out the contents. This is easy but messy so tends to be a last resort!
