Bonfire Night Displays in Edinburgh 2009 , November 5th fireworks
Organised Bonfire Guy Fawkes Night Displays in Edinburgh 2009 , November 5th Fireworks
2009
Fireworks displays are one of the things Scotland’s capital does best.
There are several organised displays around Edinburgh for 5th Nov, though the number in 2009 appears drastically reduced on previous years – perhaps because of a city council ban on certain types of displays.
Entertainment for Free
If you don’t feel like paying or you’ve left it too late to buy tickets, there are several traditional free vantage points for watching displays throughout the city. Arthur’s Seat offers a fabulous vista of the entire city, though the ascent in the dark can be somewhat treacherous! Blackford Hill can offer spectacular views - particularly of the great Meadowbank display - but it can be chilly and often somewhat windy. Calton Hill can be windy too, but there are plenty of buildings to provide at least a modicum of shelter.
(Although Calton Hill’s not generally recommended for a visit after dark, it tends to be busy on November 5th and therefore a lot safer).
