Yes, of course Edinburgh has the usual free general museums galleries etc but the capital has other more unusual entertainment absolutely gratis. 
There’s jazz, folk, comedy, theatre, live mike nights, children’s shows, architecture and all manner of fun family events.  So shut your purse and enjoy!!

Students at Edinburgh Uni’ with a Union Gold Card get free entry to weekly Comedy Nights at the Pleasance, Saturday’s popular ‘Big Cheese’, the new Saturday indie night ‘Going Underground’ and the Wednesday clubnight ‘Flirt’.

Lovers of architecture can ogle the interiors of fabulous buildings for free.  As well as galleries and a multitude of amazing churches you can feast your eyes on the fabulous Royal Bank of Scotland building at 36 St Andrews Square. The entrance is great in itself but get yourself to the banking hall and drool over that fantastic ceiling. Other spectacular banking halls are now bars and restaurants.  Wander through the spectacular Dome or Centotre, both on George St.

Princes St. Gardens is host to a smorgasbord of free entertainment for St. Andrews Day (29-30 Nov).  Includes live bands, theatre, parades, storytelling, magic shows, dance and sports skills sessions.
