Cycling in the City
Edinburgh is still in the dark ages when it comes to cycling in the city centre, but improvements are slowly being made. In recent years Edinburgh City Council has installed more bike lanes and bike boxes at traffic lights along with traffic-calming measures introduced on busy biking commuting areas.
However the network is far from joined up and motorised traffic is still a major deterrent for would-be cyclists. But don't be put off - there are many ways to enjoy traffic free cycling in Edinburgh.

If you want to cycle within the city centre, why not try the Critical Mass Cycle. They meet on the last Friday of every monthat the base of the Mound outside the galleries at 5.30pm. The ride starts at 6pm. Anyone can join it. It's free. You just turn up on your bike or self-propelled machine. All ages take part and importantly it's for all levels of experience.
