Non-Fattening Chocolate - On Its Way!

non-fattening chocolate, low-calorie chocolate breakthrough,low fat chocolate

The world’s largest chocolatier – swiss company Barry Callebaut - has ‘accidentally’ stumbled upon the formula for chocolate that’s not only ultra low-fat but won’t melt in your hands on a warm summer’s day.

It has an incredible 90% fewer calories than normal chocolate and the top-secret formula is due to be sold to Nestle and Cadbury’s.  So we could be seeing low-calorie versions of top favourites like Kit Kat and Dairy Milk within a year or two.

Why Did It Take So Long?

Previous attempts at creating low-fat, melt-proof chocolate have resulted in a hard, unattractive texture and poor quality of taste.  But apparently this formula has a strong, very chocolately aroma and does melt in the mouth, though it’s the enzymes in the saliva rather than the heat of the mouth that causes the melting.   Experts are speculating that the calorie reduction has been made by substituting some cocoa butter, which is both fatty and liable to melt at around 30 degrees C. with something like starch.

Excited?  So are we!
