Cinema

Wendy's picture

Latest visits to the cinema included "Slumdog Millionare". We were lucky enough to see a preview at the Cameo with a link up with Danny Boyle, who came accross as a down to earth guy ,not your typical Film type . The film was not ,as hyped,a feel good Movie, (Mama Mia is feel good ). Slumdog is more Dickensian but an amazing fast , colourful, loud cultureshock, beautifully shot ,directed and acted by the entire cast young and old .

Wendy's picture
Hi how is 2009 going ? Broken all your resolutions yet ? - don't make any it's simpler !! . Well this is going to be some year for Birthdays with family we have 10 , 20 , 40 , 50 , 60 , and 80 these spanning four generations, how we are celebrating them will be a reflection on our personalities or the partners or parents ! Shall report on the events as they unfold through the year.

Merry Xmas Brochure

Wendy's picture

Are you like me at the moment being snowed under by Christmas brochures. I think the number increases year on year. Who uses them? is there a hidden layer of Humans who cannot wait for these weird publications with odd names "Gifties for the girlies", ", Prezzies for the merries " , " Goodies for the nippers" , Studio 24 ( thought that was a night club!). They all claim to be original unique and "always" stylish - stylish for goodness sake !.

Step we gaily Strontian.

Wendy's picture
Well folks your intrepid reporter made her way to Strontian on the Ardnamurchan peninsula,to see Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, the absolute consumate musicians some of their tunes make you laugh some makes you cry. the in between tunes banter is a fun sideshow to the music.I would highly recommend catching their tour including Edinburgh at the Queens Hall. Friday 26th Sept. Tel 0131-668-2019. As a total aside we made our way to Strontian early to eat before the concert (which by the way was in the Sunart Center ,beautiful modern building) .

Festival penthouse report

Wendy's picture
It was fitting our final day of the festival was wet but,as luck would have it ,it dried up to give a lovely evening. We had a fabulous view of the Castle from the north and with surround -a- sound music. The fireworks were stunning as usual,in fact they improve year after year.Given the Hungarian theme our hostess served up a delightful Goulash,a good time was had by all on and off the balcony. fashion tip- it appears de-rigeur to wear leggings under dresses or cropped trouser and for the young leggings and floaty tops all with very high heels.

Fab Festival Portrait of Dorien Gray.

Wendy's picture
An absolute must see ,although tickets are limited and the run ends on Sat 30th August, this is a stunning production by Matthew Bourne, bringing Dorien Gray bang up to date. The impact of this production reverberates through your mind . Modern,Gothic,Seductive,Beautiful,Alluring occasionally funny, do beg or steal a ticket. A triumph for the festival. Still no fashion tips!!!! Am going to rooftop party for the Fireworks on Sunday , perhaps the Fashionista will be there. Will report on both ( Men please NO TCP.)

Fringe Cut

Wendy's picture
It's hard to believe the fringe is over for another year. It's been an interesting and varied one as usual,I was especially impressed by the standard of childrens theatre, really high and always containing enough to entertain accompaning adults.

Mrs. webbed feet - Festival Blog

Wendy's picture
Mrs. webbed feet here again posting festival report, most of the time spent at a waterlogged Book Festival,it's very cosy inside the venues a bit like camping ! I was very impressed with Andrew Crumey and Andrew Greig, both have written Post Modern multi-layered books, Greig has written Romano Bridge ,spun round the search for the Stone of Destiny, a definite must read ,I will be supporting it for the Book group. Crumey's Sputnic Caledonia a wonderful title, the book is likened to " Lanark", I'll leave you to decide on that one !.

From Pirates to Politics.

Wendy's picture
Still Raining ! But hey where else can you spend the last few days up a close in a wee back room watching Children's entertainment of the highest standard with enough intelligence to give the adults a laugh. Pirates at C 3 on the High Street highly recommended. Then off to the Book Festival opened with Gordon Brown and Ian Rankin both on good form.Next up an interesting talk by David Owen still as handsome as ever but with arrogance he displayed in his political days replaced by humour and knowledge and an amazing book arguing that world leaders state of health affects their ability to rule.

Festival Blog - day 1

Wendy's picture
Hey it's raining .every road dug up , computers on the blink ticketing in crisis ! -it's August in Edinburgh ,time for the Book Festival , Fringe ,Festival and all types of alternative entertainments. All that said it's a great time to be in Edinburgh - The grey city switches on it's lights and what a city it is !! Throughout all this I plan to post my observations . I shall dip in and out of the Book Festival ,although in common with most I did not receive all of my wish list (no Sean Connery, reserved for them and thems !!
