Here Come The Girls (Men in Tights)

HERE COME THE GIRLS

We’ve had guyliner, manscara, manbags, manzieres (bras for larger men) and now we’ve got…….mantyhose!

You’ve got it.  Men in tights.  No, not those sexy lycra leggings you see on fit cyclists as they whiz by.  No such luck.  These are your bog standard nylon tights.  In snakeskin, camouflage, stripes, tartan, floral…you name it. Even the dreaded American Tan.

Male pantyhose are being heavily promoted by someone called Harisnya on a site entitled e-MANcipate. Says he:

I like to wear pantyhose – just like many other men – because I like the soft material,, the support it gives to my legs and body and because I find it very practical’.

Now, now you lot, restrain yourselves.  No metrophobia here.  If girls can wear trousers, lumberjack shirts, smoking jackets, ties and clumpy brogues then surely guys can wriggle their way into tights if they want to?

Why
would they want to?  That’s the six million dollar question.

Says Harisnya Men who wear pantyhose do it to improve athletic performance, energise and revitalise tired, aching leg muscles, and to stimulate circulation if they sit all day’.

On his site he features a 32 year-old lorry driver who claims wearing thick support tights under his trousers has cured his venous ulcer.  Well, fair enough.  But now he thinks the tights are sooo sexy he’s shaving his legs and going sheerer and sheerer…… Ah-hah.

Front page discussion topic on Harisynya’s site?  ‘Is Pink Pantyhose Too Femmy for Men?’  If you’d like to respond, you know where to go!

Have YOUR Say

Are men turning into girls by stealth?  Or in these days of total emancipation should men be able to preen themselves like women and wear whatever they want?   Post your comments below…..

No, men are not becoming girls by stealth.  (sorry if this is a duplicate--can't see whether my first attempt to post was lost)  Nylon legwear (i.e., tights, pantyhose) are becoming accepted as a unisex garment in many circles.  Time was that a man wearing tights or sheer hosiery was assumed to be doing so for crossdressing or fetish purposes.  However, times have changed dramatically over the past 10 years or so.

Coincidentally, that is about the length of time that ActivSkin has been in the business of selling nylon legwear made especially for men.  I work for ActivSkin and can atest to the fact that our sales have been growing to their greatest numbers ever in 2008-09.  We sell hosiery to a wide spectrum of men, many of whom are in quite masculine professions (motorcycle cops, truck drivers, etc. and many others).

I have been wearing hose for quite a few years--initially for the purpose of leg support for venous insufficiency--and have found a number of additional benefits.  These include muscle compression for improved stamina while running or cycling, as well as keeping the chill off the legs in the early morning without causing overheating after finishing a workout.

Since joining ActivSkin, I've been hosting a blog called 'The Nylon Gene' (www.nylongene.com) where I try to make sure the full story of men's legwear is told.  Please feel free to drop by and read some of the background info we've provided.
