As the leaves fall and the first chills nip the air, the high street’s bursting with some fabulous new winter coats.

Vibrant jewel tones are poised to inject personality and warmth into drab winter days and a myriad of ‘sculpted’ details such as tiered or bubble hemlines and draped, cowled or scarf-wrap necks add that certain je ne sais quoi to the standard coat profile. 

Concealed fastenings offer a smart, minimalist vibe and duffel coats have made a huge comeback, helped along by Cheryl Cole’s recent adoption of this schoolyard staple.

Houndstooth check is big news this year, with retailers such as Next, Coast and Hobbs getting in on this classic act.
